Cancun, Mexico in Lime Ricki

Can we just go back?

I tirelessly dreamt and talked with Spencer about moving to Cancun– or anywhere in Mexico– when we get older. A place to travel to, turned into a place to retire to, turned into a place to move to after he finishes school. Of course, this is all aiming for the highest #lifegoals. Ever. But while staying at The Royalton Cancun, even in the lap of luxury, I fell even more in love with the humble people from Mexico and the culture that surrounded them. Spencer is fluent in Spanish from spending (LIVING he says) 2 years in Guatemala for his LDS (Mormon) mission. I took three years of Spanish in high school myself, but had a rusty memory, and many “ah-ha!” moments when a familiar word was used. It is so hard to explain the warmth I felt sitting back and listening to Spencer converse with natives, chiming in when I could. Context clues and body language play a lot into learning language, so I could understand what was being said about 70% of the time.
This is going to sound a bit strange, but I feel like I identify with Hispanic culture. The Spanish word I use for this feeling is “simpatico”. From a young age, I have always been confused as a Mexican. I found this hilarious, and would often tease people when they asked by trying to make them believe I was. Truth is, I love when people mistake this. My family is Caucasian- purely of European decent, some Czech and Swedish in there. I inherited my dad’s olive skin and dark eyes, thus appearing of a darker race. Somehow, over the years I grew this affinity for Mexican culture. I love how it is centered around family, happiness, and hard work. I think I can also attribute this to my dad and mom. We are very family centric, and I was taught that nothing was earned without hard work.
Needless to say, I am going to keep planting the idea in Spencer’s head that we live there one day. Besides la gente, the closeness of the beach, the humidity, warm rain, constant sun, the wildlife; these are all factors of my love for the country.

We stayed at The Royalton Cancun, an all-inclusive (that means food, drinks, and room included!) resort. The architecture of the building was beautiful; located right on the beach. We had 6 different pools that we could occupy, among other sports areas. The food. The food was out of this world. We aren’t talking cruise crap buffet. (Although there was a buffet, but much more delicious) There were 6 different sit down and dine in restaurants serving 4-5 star food. Delicious, and we couldn’t get sick of going back to them. Plus, there was ON TAP (fountain drinks are da bomb) MEXICAN COLA LIGHT. Like, yum. The service couldn’t be beat. Immediately when we arrived at the resort, they brought us champagne (we don’t drink, so they ran and got us fresh purified water instead) and cold towels for our necks. Dreamy, right? (P.S. I am not sponsored by The Royalton, we just loved it so much).

This swimsuit from Lime Ricki was my suit of choice for days 1 AND 2. The high-waist bottoms offered a cute retro look that I had been dying to try out. I am a huge fan of mixing swimsuit tops and bottoms, so these obviously don’t originally go together– but I loved the combination. The material of the suit is high quality and the top offered enough padding and support that it was comfortable (it felt like a sports bra). The only thing I would change next time would be to order a size down on the bottoms. They were a bit big. Lime Ricki is such a great company, though! Their mission statement:
“to provide women with a conservative swimwear option without compromising great style”

Spencer looked so attractive with his hair curling from the humidity. That right there is reason enough to move down to Mexico!

I have always loved Cancun. Looks like a great vacay. Love that you mixed+matched your swim pieces. I just recently added a mint+floral, high-waisted bikini which I took with me on my vacation last week.

Thank you! I have always done that and it really helps because finding matches in a messy room can be hard! Thanks for the compliment on the photos!

Your bathing suit rocks! You look so gorgeous and beach ready. I love that it's a two piece, but not too skimpy – so you can actually swim in the ocean without it falling off 😀 Entered your instagram giveaway! xo

Totally agree! The swimsuit falling off in the ocean thing… that has totally happened to me!
