Back when I first started my blog and was avidly reading other style/fashion blogs (almost two years ago, HOLY), there was this strange phenomena that I noticed.
Bloggers would actually apologize to their readers for not “writing” enough. I never wanted to be one of those bloggers. Whether that meant writing without extended leaves, or just being unapologetic, I am unsure of now.
But there is one thing I am sure of now, and that is that I am going to say SORRY and make an excuse for why I have been MIA and awful at blogging. We’re talking, “neglect my Instagram, don’t ever stress about page views, hadn’t taken pictures in weeks” kind of blogger.
The good news is that it is because I am the happiest, and probably the busiest, I have ever been in my life. Teaching has taken the main priority (besides my husband) in my life. I regard that as a wonderful sign! That means I truly love it. I am one of those people that can only dedicate my life to something if I truly adore it.
Which means, kudos to you, husband AND blogging.
I just chose to dive in head first to the teaching thing. The first week I also accepted a position as the Student Body Officers’ Assistant Advisor (I get to plan the homecoming dance!!! EEK). I also calendared all of my IEP meetings (not in the special ed world? Fear not, Google can clear up that acronym!), which was a huge step in the right direction. Note: when I say calendared what I actually mean is wrote down tentative dates to start collecting data, send home notice of meetings, and actually have the meetings. I haven’t actually set up the meetings.
Along with that, I worked extra hours at the Friday night football game and dance right after. Not sure why I’d go and support my students at the football game and NOT get paid for it, so I volunteered to sell tickets so I could get paid:)
TL;DR: I am sorry for sucking at blogging, but I am NOT sucking at teaching.
In fact, it is the most rewarding thing in my life. Constantly. Not just once a day, or once a week, but every single class period. I am just waiting for the day that I’ll hit the wall and hate my job. Pessimistic side of me always plans for the worst. However, I survived my first hectic week, and my first ever career “brain fog”. Things are going good. (optimistic side wins).
But I mean, for now, don’t worry about me, worry about your brows. (while you’re at it, just buy this shirt).

Welcome back! I honestly don't think I could blog if I was still teaching- so kudos to you for trying to do both! Do what works for you, though- there is no right way to blog 🙂
Second… I know what you mean – honestly, when I initially saw bloggers apologizing for absences from blogging, it seemed a bit pretentious and self-obsessed to me. Who cares that you missed updating us about your lame ass day for a week? BUT – as I've grown in blogging, I've realized that blogs now play an important role in our lives (i.e. provide genuinely useful information, like tutorials and how-tos, or inspiration, or motivation, etc.) and that readers often develop a genuine relationship with the bloggers they follow and regularly visit. I know I've visited your blog several times over the last few weeks and been disappointed by the lack of update (not to make you feel guilty or anything!), and was starting to worry. Thus, an apology to your "fans" is somewhat warranted, just as you would apologize if you had bailed on plans with friends or canceled brunch with your gal pals.
That being said, it's also important to have a life and passions outside of blogging, else your blog itself becomes hollow and boring. I'm glad you find teaching so fulfilling and that you're enjoying your first year of school on the other side of the desk! <3 🙂
OKAY, seriously, this is the most thoughtful comment I have read on my blog yet. You truly took time to respond! Thank you for understanding that sometimes it's important to live life as it comes. You of all people understand that, I think! I always admire how well you go with the flow and are willing to do anything that comes your way!
Thanks cute Carmen! You DO know how it is! Sometimes life gets more important that virtual life! Get it girl, it is hilarious and worth it. Super soft!
I know I couldn't carry the job of blogger and teacher, especially at the start of a new school year! Props to you for hanging in and giving it your all!!!!
First of all you do NOT suck at blogging! I love your content and your writing style! You are very open & honest with your readers and we all appreciate it! You're doing great! xoxo
