We’re heading into swimsuit season, I can hear you groan from here! Whether you have been working on your fitness or eating out everyday, you can absolutely still look good in a swimmie! The key to looking your best (in any outfit) is to dress for your body type. Usually we talk about 5 different body shapes, but I have added one more– the ‘Star’. I know that it would be impossible to fit all of our body types into a few select forms, but generally, we all identify with some of the types we will talk about in this post. I have teamed up with Yandy to show you how their swimwear collection is for every body!
PEAR SHAPED
This body type is known for having a bigger bottom half, probably has the peach emoji used a lot to describe them, and often feels like they have to go up a size in jeans. For a Pear-Shaped body, you will want to create a sense of balance between your smaller upper half to your lower half. You will want bottoms that are solid colors, have less patterns, and little frills. Stay away from boy shorts and bottoms with thick bands, as that will draw attention downwards. Try to keep the eyes drawn up with a intricate top or a plunging neckline.
APPLE SHAPED
You typically have lean legs and arms, and you should show those babies off! The area you are most likely trying to flatter is the mid-section. The good news is that the style of swimsuit that flatter your body type are trending right now: one pieces and high waist two pieces! Look for ruched swimsuits or that have shirr fabric so that it doesn’t stick to your tummy area.
RECTANGLE SHAPED
Often referred to as athletic, rectangle body types usually have a figure that is straight up and down, with slender hips and shoulders. It important to define your shape and show off the curves you do have! This means that swimsuits with less coverage are usually your biggest asset. Lucky you — you look great in bikinis and bold prints! Also a part of your ammo: monokinis, small bottoms with tie sides, or feminine flairs (like a cute ruffle).
HOURGLASS SHAPED
Ah, the Kim Kardashian of the shapes, and the most coveted for model sizing! You have a smaller waist compared to your hips and shoulders, and it is key to accentuate that. High waisted bottoms with bikini tops (not the longer tops), bandeau bralettes, and thicker bottoms are going to flatter you the most. You can also try out one-pieces that have cut-out siding.
STAR SHAPED
You have curves that kill, and you know how to to use them! Swim dresses and tankinis with longer lines are going to really show off what you’ve got without flaunting your bad angles. Asymmetrical suits can also draw the attention to your neckline and collarbone for a slimming effect.
INVERTED TRIANGLE SHAPE
I am already jealous of you because you probably have rocking arm muscles and long, lean legs. The inverted triangle body type is defined by their wide shoulders or a large bust. Work with bra-style tops with underwire if you have a larger bust, and if you are dealing with wide shoulders, wear with the same type of top but with contoured lines to draw attention down from your shoulders. Swimsuits with ruffled or patterns and a solid top will also do the trick. Plunging necklines and sweetheart shapes also balance out the shoulder to hip ratio.

Now, I love Yandy because they have adorable, high-quality pieces for an affordable price. They carry more than just swimwear, they have intimates and workout clothing as well! I fell in love with their sense of style that doesn’t break the bank, and I would highly recommend them to any of my girlfriends.

March 15, 2018I've always felt like I don't fall into a certain shape category haha. I'm technically "rectangle" but I have no tone so I'm definitely not an athletic build. Then I have a tiny chest but a bigger hip area – yet not curvy by any means ahaha. I think my body is confused sometimes. BUT I love finding swimsuits that are cute and flatter me, so I'll definitely need to check out Yandy!

March 15, 2018What an awesome post! I will definitely save this because we sometimes let the pretty patterns take over the style that really looks good on us. So helpful, thank you!
