How to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes

My biggest gripe about getting older? Bags under my eyes! I typically get less than the recommended amount of sleep and I am always stressing– both leading to the unwanted skin problem. Dark circles are not exclusive to women of a certain age; both men and women can suffer from hyperpigmentation in the sensitive area under their eyes regardless of age. Dark circles are the biggest eye skin problem! An Olay study of almost 2,000 women (age 10- 84) showed that 89% had measurable dark circles, regardless of age. Genetic predisposition and lifestyle factors (such as lack of sleep, stress and poor diet) all play a role in causing the delicate skin under your eyes to show discoloration.

However, I have found that as I have gotten older that I am more stressed and getting less sleep, all causing dark circles under my eyes to become more pronounced. Thankfully, Olay has recently come out with the best eye cream! A common question I get asked is, “how do I get rid of darkcircles under my eyes?” While that pesky discoloration won’t go away completely, I have found a few ways that keep my skin looking bright and refreshed!

Olay Brightening Eye Cream

Olay came out with a new product called Brightening Eye Cream. The product is perfect for everyday use. Even for someone with sensitive skin, I have found no problems using the product morning and night. The product contains Vitamin C, and you know how much I love that this particular vitamin aids collagen production and skin elasticity (perfect for the thinner skin under our eyes). Olay Eyes Brightening Eye Cream gives an instant brightening boost (without being sparkly) and also contains ingredients that will improve the appearance of your skin over time. Refrigerated Eye Massager

You know those mornings after you stayed up too late or forgot to drink water? Nothing feels better than a refrigerated rollerball on my puffy under-eyes! In order to de-puff, try massaging the fluid under your eyes with a cold roller ball! I keep one in my fridge at all times for this exact purpose! The coolness will restrict blood vessels, also helping with the puffiness. Try massaging in an upward motion.

Get Enough Sleep & Drink Enough Water

Pretty obvious, right? However, some women forget that lack of sleep and dehydration can cause physical issues for your body! When you’re missing sleep, the thin skin under eyes can appear puffy and dark due to the dilated blood vessels. If you don’t drink enough water (or dehydrate yourself in other ways) then your body will start to retain water. Get sleep and drink water, and you’ll instantly look refreshed!

De-Stress

When you are stressed and anxious, your body release cortisol (the stress hormone). Your body responds in funny ways, including your digestive system being negatively impacted. This can cause bloat, which means a puffy face. I understand, trust me, that anxiety sometimes comes out of nowhere! Practicing meditation has helped me find a calmness even in moments of crisis.

Use the Right Makeup

After using my Olay Eyes Brightening Eye Cream, I use a makeup that is skin matched for me! It is absolutely essential that the makeup you use is the right tone, color, and formula for you! You’ll want to pay attention to your skin tone, the finish you want (dewy or matte), and the reviews from others using the same product!

Olay is a great brand. I use their Regenerist moisturizer and it’s fabulous. I have also used an eye cream from Benefit that has helped me a lot with the dark circles.
