Why Am I Particular About My Shampoo Ingredients?
When it comes to hair care, you can never be too careful. Like a bad haircut or color, bad shampoo ingredients or products can leave lasting damage to your look and the overall health of your hair for weeks. My hair is very thick and can be dried out easily. Dried-out, thick hair is a recipe for frizz. Because of this, I have to be cautious about what I incorporate into my hair-care routine, or I turn into a frizz monster.
There are many shampoos on the market that contain harmful artificial ingredients in them. Parabens, Sulfates, and Dyes are some of the things found in common retail shampoos that can damage your hair, by drying it out, fading the color, or causing it to become brittle and prone to split ends. When I choose a shampoo, the first question on my list is: “Is it a paraben and sulfate free shampoo?”
What can a Paraben and Sulfate Free Shampoo Do for Your Hair (and Scalp?)
I look for all-natural shampoos because for the most part, with few exceptions, if they are labeled all-natural they will not contain parabens or sulfates. There are many great shampoos, however, that are not labeled as “all-natural”. So why avoid parabens and sulfates?
Parabens are a preservative and they are used to keep shampoos shelf stable for longer. They can cause allergic reactions, and importantly, can speed up the aging process of skin because of how they react with UV rays. I don’t want to cause any additional sun damage to my hair and skin, so I avoid harmful parabens in my shampoo. Having a paraben free shampoo means that you won’t be doing unnecessary sun damage, aging, or damage to your scalp and follicles. If you are someone who likes to be active outside or spends a lot of time outdoors you should really consider switching to paraben free shampoo and conditioner!
Sulfates are another problem ingredient that I wish to cut out of my hair care and beauty routine. Sulfates are used in shampoo to get that traditional “lathering” effect. Lathering and bubbles aren’t necessary to remove dirt and grime from hair and the side effect of sulfates in shampoo is that they can make shampoos too strong. Sulfates can strip the color and healthy oils out of your hair, resulting in muted, dry, and brittle hair, which is obviously undesirable. If you have color treated hair, or your hair is naturally dry paraben and sulfate free shampoo will really help to maintain your color, strength, and the moisture level in your hair.
Hair Food: Paraben Free Shampoo and Conditioner
If you’re in the market for a convenient paraben free shampoo and conditioner pairing to incorporate into your hair care rituals, Hair Food might be what you’re looking for, here’s why:
Hair Food is a Paraben Free Shampoo and Conditioner System
Using a paraben and sulfate free shampoo that cleans and strips away dirt, grime, and buildup is every bit as important as having a conditioner that doesn’t use any of the harmful shampoo ingredients either. With the Hair Food system, you know that both products are made without sulfates and parabens. After three washes, it already feels like my hair is on it’s way back to its luscious self! Turns out that that my hair likes natural ingredients and not having sulfates, parabens, or dyes!
You Can Find Them at Target and Walmart, and the Price Isn’t Bad Either!
Knowing that I can find an easy-to-use complete hair care system at my local Target without having to stop in at a specialty salon to pick up my shampoo is a real added bonus. I only choose hair care products that only contain the best conditioner and shampoo ingredients, so being able to add them to my shopping list and pick them up without extra effort is a major selling point for me. The product price comes in under $10 a bottle — an absolute steal! I shouldn’t have to give up more of my time to have healthy hair. If you’re looking to switch to something better than what you’re using and want to have healthier hair, Hair Food is the paraben free shampoo and conditioner set you need to try!

February 17, 2019I always reach for shampoo and conditioner sets that are paraben-free and sulfate-free because I have colored hair and I know they can be damaging. I’ve heard lots of good things about this brand but never tried them. I’ll have to soon!
