Uh-oh! You woke up this morning and realized that trick-or-treating is only a few days away and you’re in need of a Halloween costume! Have no fear — two day shipping is here! In previous years, I have also done DIY costume ideas, like this mermaid. While makeup and crafts aren’t my best skills, it is still a blast to practice, and sometimes even collaborate with artists that ARE skilled! This year, I have showcased several costume ideas over on my instagram, @lauryncakes. This spooky holiday is one of my favorites because I love being able to create something out of nothing! It’s also the best time of the year because my neighborhood goes all out decorating their front yards– every single house is decked out! Here are some ideas of outdoor decorations for Halloween to get you in the spooky mood.
Genie from Aladdin
Did you see this costume on my Instagram? On my feed, you can see the halloween costume idea with more effects like smoke and levitation! With all of the Disney remakes happening right now, I am in heaven (did you hear about Lizzie Mcguire?). The new live-action Aladdin had Spencer and I singing the tunes all week! Although I was skeptical of Will Smith as the Genie at first, it’s safe to say his performance won me over! This costume is easy to DIY with products you have at home. However, all of the pieces are available on Amazon Prime for quick delivery. So, what will it be? Your wish is my command!
Snake with Scales
Snakes are polarizing animals! While many think of them as slimy and sneaky, others are in awe of their mystique and power. I am definitely team snake (I’m a Slytherin, after all), because throughout history, snakes have represented female energy and healing! To achieve the scale look, simply use fishnet tights pulled taught against the face, then brush your desired color of eyeshadow onto the face.
Butterfly Queen
Similar to the halloween costume above, butterflies also symbolize rebirth! I have been fascinated with butterflies this year because of how much we can learn from their life cycle. In fact, this isn’t the first time I’ve depicted a butterfly queen on my Instagram feed this year! For this costume, you’ll want to be both delicate and extravagant. This costume would look amazing with lipsticks like Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk. Shop my outfit shown above (all available with two-day shipping on Amazon prime) to get your costume on time for Halloween!
Queen Cleopatra
While on a road trip this summer, Spencer and I listened to ‘Cleopatra: Ms. Understood’ by the “Stuff You Should Know” podcast team. As it turns out, the female leader is surrounded by a lot of mystery since her life wasn’t chronicled well. What I did learn from listening to the podcast is that she was a true role model for women, often doing the things that were difficult for the greater good. I chose to dress up as the Macedonian in Egypt as a way to spread more of her knowledge! This Halloween costume is less of a DIY and requires more props, but all of them are available with quick shipping!
What or who are you dressing up as for Halloween 2019?
