Another year has come and gone and the sense of new beginnings is amongst us. Many are leaving the year fulfilled and notice the accomplishments of the past twelve months. Some may be scratching their heads wondering where the time went and why they didn’t achieve all their set goals. This year, in order to have more achievable goals, I have decided to simplify. Instead of giving myself a set number, I am simply going to add the word more to the positive things in my life. Here are a few of the habits I am hoping to bring more of into my life.
Eating Healthier
Ideally, you have seen this goal on many people’s New Year’s resolution list. It’s a standard of living we could all use! This year, I am going to push myself to eat more veggies and less carbs. After letting my appetite (and weight) get away from me the past few months, I am ready to get my body back to feeling healthy again! Spencer and I plan on ordering from a place that sends pre-made healthy meals to your house! Hopefully, by working on a healthier diet, it will kickstart my fitness again!
Reading Books
Although I am still love to consume every bit of information I can, reading books is a habit I have fallen out of. Often, I trade reading traditional texts for articles on the computer or on my phone out of convenience. In 2019, I want read more books with pages that can be found in the library or a store. It’s time to make reading cool again!
Focus on My Blog
Beyond the scope of work I put in for sponsored blogposts, my blog took a backseat this past year. If you talk to any blogger, they will tell you that their website is the only part of their social media that they own. Knowing this, it is important to focus more on frequently putting up blogposts that are engaging and worthwhile. Instagram definitely was a primary focus for me in 2018, as it is a facet of my business, but I would like to shift the focus to my blog in 2019. After all, social media platforms could disappear tomorrow, but my blog can remain forever.
Take Risks
Additionally, it’s time to take more risks with my blog and business! Taking a leap of faith and going full-time with Lauryncakes is one of the goals I have for the year 2019! It can be a gamble freelancing full-time due to fluctuating income from month to month and lack of healthcare, but the benefits seem to out way the costs. Once I take the chance, I will be able to travel more, network more, and create more!
Drink Water
Undoubtedly, drinking more water is on a lot of resolution lists for 2019. In case you were wondering, I have the goal of adding more H20 to my diet as well. To help with this daily intake, I plan on drinking 16 oz of water as soon as I wake up in the morning. Here’s to less headaches and better skin!
Stretch
In contrast to my high school years spent as a cheerleader, I hardly ever stretch these days! Throughout the workday, I tend to stretch a lot by rolling my shoulders or my neck. However, I am talking about a deep muscle stretch. I have started to get into the habit of stretching for 10 minutes after working out. Ideally, stretching would happen before the workout, as well as on non-physical days. According to University Health News, stretching can help reduce stress, which is all anyone could ever ask for!
Meditate
If you read my Instagram post from earlier this week, one of the lessons I learned this past year was that meditation comes in different forms for people. I recently talked about mindfulness and being present in a blogpost. You may remember that I first learned about meditation at a teacher seminar held over the summer where an English teacher from the district led us through a meditation. After, he invited us to take a series of classes learning about different forms of meditation and mindfulness. During these small after school gatherings, I was able to find peace during the practice. After feeling similarly when in the zone during cycling class, I asked the meditation instructor if it was possible I was meditating. His answer: absolutely! I would like to find more time to cycle this year so that I can get into that headspace, as well as find more time to practice while stationary.
What are your goals for the upcoming year? Have you set any intentions to build positive habits? Let me know in the comment section below! I love reading what you have to say.

December 31, 2018I LOVE the idea of adding ‘more’ instead of set numbers. It allows you to better each day which is so much easier! I haven’t had enough time to contemplate what I want to bring into the new year, but I want to at least end this year on a high note! -koalee on IG ❤️❤️

December 31, 2018Yes! I want to make my goals as achievable as possible. If I set goals too high, I never reach them because I shut down.

December 31, 2018I have also fallen out of the habit of reading! I used to read at least 1 or 2 books a week….I miss it but I just never make time for it anymore. Definitely one of my 2019 goals as well!
