Ahhhh, Vitamin C, aka The One Skincare Item You Should Never Go Without. It rejuvenates. It is anti-aging. It’ll make you more beautiful. I’ve talked about how much I love the skincare product on my blog before, and even done some skincare videos on @lauryncakes about the holy grail vitamin, but here is a real breakdown of the benefits of Vitamin C:
-
-
- Evens out skin tone after acne or sun damage
- Combats hyperpigmentation
- Prevents damage from free radicals
- Boosts collagen for younger looking skin
- Reduces inflammation and heals wounds
- Synthesizes Hyaluronic Acid for hydrated skin
-
It is an Antioxidant
Listen, free radicals cause the skin to prematurely age through stress and oxidation. They can alter DNA, proteins, and lipids in the body. “Free radicals and other ROS are derived either from normal essential metabolic processes in the human body or from external sources such as exposure to X-rays, ozone, cigarette smoking, air pollutants, and industrial chemicals.”
Furthermore, Vitamin C contains antioxidants essential to keeping the skin young. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and reduce the oxidative stress on skin.
Add For a Boost of Collagen
Bodies are continuously creating new collagen, which is essential to maintaining and repairing connective tissue as well as helping strengthen the skin and provide elasticity. Without enough Vitamin C, it is harder for the body to build up collagen and the skin will age quicker. This is why it’s important to include it as an ingredient in your daily skin routine as well as your diet.
Vitamin C is needed for Hyaluronic Acid Synthesis
Along with collagen, Hyaluronic Acid is needed for healthy skin, but also decreases as we age. Hyaluronic Acid provides moisture to our skin. Studies show that one gram of gooey, clear hyaluronic acid can contain up to six liters of water! Eating Vitamin C rich foods can increase production of hyaluronic acid to prevent aging.
Fade Dark Spots with the Benefits of Vitamin C
Wouldn’t you have it, sun damage and acne spots can be helped with a little Vitamin C application! It’s a brightening agent that not only fades dark spots, but can also prevent them from forming in the first place. Vitamin C inhibits melanin production to help with hyper-pigmentation. It’s a little miracle worker to create an even skin tone.
