Florida Keys Spring Itinerary: Where to Stay
Hawks Cay Resort
The first place we cozied in was Hawks Cay Resort on Ducks Key. Since it is located in the Middle Keys, you will have to have a car, or use a shuttle to get to the property. The resort has guest rooms, as well as two-bedroom and three-bedroom villas to stay in while on the Ducks Key. The villas are fit for at least 8 people (if you’re sharing beds/couches). It honestly had me thinking about taking four of our couple-friends to the resort for a 3-bedroom rental!
Although there is no place to swim in the ocean on Ducks Key, Hawks Cay does have a manmade saltwater lagoon that is perfect for taking a dip! The resort also has an Oasis Cay adults-only area, Coral Cay activities center for kids (including a pirate ship), dolphin education experience, as well as dockside fishing, diving, and water sports.
You really don’t have to leave the resort, as they have a general store with snacks and drinks, a souvenir shop, and six on-site restaurants. We found ourselves eating dinner at Angler and Ale, where I enjoyed the Tuna Nachos and exceptional service. In the morning, we got delicious coffee and croissants from the General Store.
Additionally, each bathroom in the rooms are stocked with the signature Key Lime lotion, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. I fell in love with the scent and bought a lotion to take home to my husband from the Hawks Cay gift shop. He has been using it daily since I got home from this vacation!
PRO TIP: I wish I’d indulged in their refillable soda fountain cups found at the general store next to the main pool. You get a recyclable mug that can be refilled endlessly while at the resort. Put in ice, water, soda– It would have filled my heart to have gotten one of these!
Southernmost Resort
During our time in Key West, we stayed at Southernmost Beach Resort in historic Old Town Key West. The resort sits on the edge of the Atlantic ocean, and has two beaches, multiple food & bar options, three gorgeous pools, well-equipped fitness center, packed event calendar. It is also central to everything on the warm island! When you head to Key West in The Florida Keys, you’ve gotta explore this little piece of paradise!
When we arrived at the resort, we were met with glasses of champagne from the front desk, and live music at the main pool. This is definitely a more upscale place to stay, and it showed from the scent in the lobby to the daily cleaning in the rooms!
Basically everywhere in The Keys has wild chickens. Be aware that you will see (and hear) many roosters, hens, and baby chicks while you’re at this location. I may have been pooped on by one of them… but they say that being poop on by a bird is good luck, right?!
PRO TIP: if you stay at The Southernmost Resort, they give each adult guest a $30 food voucher to be used at their in-house restaurants. We ate lunch at The Southernmost Beach Cafe and I loved the Shrimp Somo Wrap.
